Would You Take Chevrolet’s 48-State Road Trip?

Chevy Colorado

Last month, Chevy teamed up with Randy Olson, a data scientist, to design a road trip of epic proportions—one that takes drivers and their passengers through all 48 contiguous United States. Chevrolet’s 48-state road trip includes one stop in each state, at locations such as historic landmarks, beautiful natural phenomena, and the country’s most exciting theme parks.

This giant road trip would take 214.56 hours of driving (approximately nine days) without stopping. If you add on stops for gas, food, lodging, and enjoying the recommended spots in each state—plus any extra detours to see other landmarks or visit loved oens—this road trip could easily last over a month.

In total, the route that Chevy and Olson mapped out lasts 13,389 miles—too many miles to go without an oil change, which means you’d also have to find a couple certified Chevy dealerships along the way. To play it safe, get your oil change here at El Dorado Chevy before embarking on your adventure.

You can also test drive one of our 2018 Chevy models, which have earned a reputation for trustworthy performance. “Road trips are about creating shared memories and quality time with family and friends,” remarked Steve Majoros, director of marketing, Chevrolet Cars and Crossovers. “When on the road, travelers can trust Chevrolet vehicles to help get them where they’re going reliably. Chevy is now the only brand to earn J.D. Power Dependability Awards for cars, trucks and SUVs three years in a row.”

Whether you stop by for vehicle maintenance or to take a whirl in a shiny new 2018 model, El Dorado Chevrolet will be more than happy to help you have the most memorable road trip yet.

New Camaro Hot Wheels Edition: Celebrating 50 Years in Style

Even if you’re not a kid, you may still enjoy the new 50th Anniversary Edition of the Chevy Camaro. The special edition of the Camaro, called the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels Edition, has a vibrant exterior design, powerful engine, and the latest high-tech gadgets. In short, it’s everything you’ve dreamed about in a car since you were playing with Hot Wheels.

According to The News Wheel, the relationship between Hot Wheels and the Camaro is long-standing. The Camaro was one of only 16 cars that was in the original Hot Wheels lineup, which first debuted 50 years ago in 1968.

The new, full-size Hot Wheels Edition comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, a special “Crush” color scheme, distinct badging, and more. Orders for the Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition opened on February 1st.

“Since the Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition debuted last October, we’ve been overwhelmed with the passionate interest from Camaro and Hot Wheels fans alike,” said Todd Christensen, Marketing manager for Chevrolet Camaro. “We’re thrilled that the Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition will soon be hitting the streets, building upon an already formidable lineup that includes the Camaro Redline Edition and Camaro ZL1 1LE.”

El Dorado Chevy couldn’t be more excited about the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition.

Chevy Trucks Dominate KBB Best Vehicle Resale Awards

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500Chevrolet is an award-winning brand, and it’s received recognition from a range of organizations. Recently, Kelley Blue Book (KBB)—a third-party review website that’s been in operation for decades—gave Chevy an award for having the Best Vehicle Resale Values for an entire truck lineup. So, if you’re looking for a quality truck that’s built to last, you might start with a test drive of one at El Dorado Chevy.

According to The News Wheel, the Chevy Silverado and Colorado were listed within the Top 10 Models for the 2018 Best Resale Value Awards from KBB. This should come as no surprise, since the Silverado and Colorado are incredibly popular and they’re built with durable designs. In particular, the Colorado keeps up to 60.5% of its original buying price after 36 months—pretty impressive compared to most other vehicles. It also has a highly desirable ZR2 off-road trim that increases value significantly.

The Silverado also did well, keeping an average 57.6% of its original price when sold 36 months after it was first owned. The Silverado is already the second-best-selling vehicle in the US, so it comes as little surprise that this impressive pickup is so popular even after a year and a half of ownership.

Barrett-Jackson Auction Corvettes Raise $2.325 Million

Each year, car aficionados can bid on highly coveted automobiles at the Barrett-Jackson Auction to benefit charities. This year, two Corvette models were up for grabs, netting $2.325 million, which will be used to benefit military veterans.

The first car up for auction was the Corvette Carbon 65 Edition, which was signed by President George W. Bush himself. The owner of Atlantic Automotive Group, John Staluppi, managed to outbid everyone for this treasure and took home the Corvette for $1.4 million. That money will go to the Bush Center’s Military Service Initiative, which helps post-9/11 vets and their families as they transition back into civilian life.

The second Barrett-Jackson Auction Corvette on the auction block was the Corvette ZR1, the fastest and most powerful production Corvette model ever released. Rick Hendrick, who chairs the Hendrick Automotive Group but is better known for his 12-time NASCAR Cup Series-winning Hendrick Motorsports team, nabbed the ZR1 for $925,000, which will benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

GM prides itself for its commitment to veterans, with more than 6,000 veterans currently employed within the company and 50,000 GM retirees who have served our country.

While our vehicles are not up for auction, you can test drive and purchase the new Corvette at El Dorado Chevy.

These Were the Pickup Trucks on Display at NAIAS

The North American International Auto Show is our nation’s most important auto show each year. Held in Detroit (and commonly called the Detroit Auto Show) each January, the show is the perfect opportunity for automakers to showcase their newest and upcoming vehicles.

We just wrapped up the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. In case you missed it, these were the pickup trucks on display at NAIAS.

  • 2019 Chevrolet Silverado: Let’s start with the most important—the new Silverado, which will be available this year at El Dorado Chevrolet. The 2019 Silverado features the most functional bed of any full-size truck, now with class-leading cargo volume. Chevrolet trimmed up to 450 pounds off the Silverado for improved efficiency and will offer eight different models and six engine/transmission choices, one of which is the new Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six diesel.
  • 2019 Ram 1500: The new Ram 1500 was also on display. While it doesn’t compare to the Chevy Silverado, it does have some strong points, like a 225-pound weight reduction and a max payload increase.
  • 2019 Ford Ranger: A new entrant to the market is the 2019 Ford Ranger, a mid-size truck that competes with the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. As of yet, it doesn’t seem to offer the same cutting-edge technologies that you get in the Colorado and

What Is the History of Chevrolet?

Chevrolet Centennial Truck Bowtie in McKinney, Texas

The history of Chevrolet is vivid and even shrouded in a bit of mystery. Chevrolet is one of the oldest automotive manufacturers in the United States. It was founded on November 3, 1911 by race car driver Louis Chevrolet and GM founder William C. Durant.

The instantly recognizable Chevrolet “bowtie” was first used in 1914 on the H series models. However, there is a lot of mystery surrounding where Durant got the idea. Some say he was inspired by French wallpaper, others say it comes from the Swiss cross, and a third theory is it stems from a logo Durant saw in a newspaper. Wherever it came from, it is a symbol we all know and love today.

Even from its earliest days, the Chevrolet brand was a popular choice, especially due to affordable models like the Series 490. Within a few years, Durant was able to make enough money to buy back a controlling interest in General Motors and merged in Chevrolet as a separate brand.

Over the decades, Chevrolet continued to expand its lineup to include versatile, affordable options for the masses, while growing its performance lineup at the same time.

Car Safe Resolutions for the New Year

2018 Chevrolet Cruze in McKinney, Texas

Now that 2018 is here, you have the opportunity to make some changes in your life. While you might be considering living healthier or saving money, we have a few car safe resolutions for you to consider.

  • Never use your phone behind the wheel. Every year, thousands of people die in accidents related to cell phone use. Make sure you are not the cause of one of these accidents by resolving to keep your phone away while you drive.
  • Make safety a priority. If you have plans for a new car this year, put safety features at the top of your priority list. Perhaps even spend a bit more to get advanced active features.
  • Use proper car seats. If you have young children, make sure they are using a car seat that is appropriate for their age and size. Children 12 and under need to be in the back seat. And, children should be in a booster seat until they are at least 4-foot 9-inches tall.
  • Always use seat belts. While seat belt usage is more universal than ever, there are still deaths that could be avoided simply by buckling up. Make sure you and all your passengers are secure before you start driving.

Which of these car safe resolutions will you be committing to this year? If you are looking for a new, safer car, visit us at El Dorado Chevrolet.

Deciding to Buy a New Vs. Used Vehicle

New Vs. Used vehicleIt’s the age-old question: should I buy a new car or a used one? Both are viable options, and El Dorado Chevy has great vehicles in both categories. We’ll show you the short version of deciding to buy a new vs. used vehicle.

New

Lots of people choose to buy new cars because of the peace of mind that comes with them. New cars come with warranties that will protect your wallet in case of any unexpected problems. New cars will also have the latest in technology and safety features. If you value the security that comes with advanced driver assistance tools, or need to have a Wi-Fi hotspot in your vehicle for work, a new car can deliver. The downside of new cars, of course, is the higher price, but the cost is worth it to many.

 Used

The biggest benefit to buying a used car is the money that the shopper will save. Not only does one save on the initial price tag, but that lower price will also mean lower insurance, lower taxes, and lower registration. That used to be the only reason to buy used, but these days cars are made to last, so a used car can be just as reliable as a new one. Find a model that’s recent enough to have the features you want, and you’re looking at a great deal from El Dorado Chevy.
