This summer, Chevrolet revealed the 2018 Camaro ZL1 NASCAR Cup Race Car, which will debut at the Daytona Speedweeks races in February 2018, the beginning of the NASCAR season. This was the first race in which Chevy used the Camaro ZL1, previously opting for the Chevy SS.
With the retirement of the SS, Chevy moved onto the Camaro ZL1, adjusting the design to make it as speedy and efficient as possible on the racetrack. Chevy focused on making the ZL1 a great racecar without losing its iconic Camaro styling, and the brand succeeded—the stance, the lines of the hood, and the slope of the roof all recall the Camaro.
In August, Chevy invited NASCAR drivers and fans to check out the new ZL1 before it makes its debut during the next NASCAR season. One of the drivers was the mega-famous Jimmie Johnson, a Chevy driver excited to get behind the wheel of the racing Camaro ZL1 after loving it as a street-legal vehicle.
The ZL1 NASCAR Cup won’t hit the racetrack until next year, but you can still experience the production version of the Camaro ZL1. Give us a call today at El Dorado Chevy and we’ll set up a test drive.

One of the most expensive parts of owning a car is paying for gas. That’s why we’ve written a post on fuel efficiency tips to help you make the most of your driving. From getting the right car to driving habits and maintenance, there are a few things you can do to squeeze every last drop of gasoline for power.
According to Popular Mechanics, selecting the right car is one of the most important things. At El Dorado Chevy, we have a wide selection of efficient cars that help you save at the pump. The Malibu, Colorado, Spark, Cruze, Trax, and Bolt have exceptional gas mileage.
Proper maintenance also affects fuel economy. Make sure you’re getting oil changes every 3-5 months, or as needed, and check the tires, air filter, fuel filter, and other parts regularly. By ensuring your engine is well-lubricated and that airflow is smooth, your engine will fire with optimum efficiency.
Finally, reconsider your driving habits. Speeding on the highway tends to be one of the biggest causes of bad gas mileage, as added drag can reduce efficiency. You should also avoid rapid acceleration and hard braking—signs that you’re burning fuel at a high rate. Remain calm behind the wheel, and, if possible, try carpooling a few days out of the week to save more.
These are just some of the methods of saving more money at the pump.
Nowadays, the roads can seem scarier than ever with the ratcheting number of distracted drivers and the levels of danger on roads across the country. But, Chevy drivers can feel safer when their family is behind the wheel thanks to the newly-added FamilyLink from OnStar program, an exciting new information feature from one of Chevrolet’s longest-lasting partners in safety-first driving.
FamilyLink from OnStar is an opt-in expansion for OnStar subscribers that allows users to track any FamilyLink-enabled vehicle through the online OnStar portal. You can customize your FamilyLink experience by selecting when you’ll receive text message or email alerts, such as when the linked vehicle arrives safely at its destination or when it’s driving through inclement weather conditions. You can also remotely check the vehicle’s location at any time, information that only you and your pre-approved list of users have access to. Now, there’s no need for your loved ones to text or call from the road and lessen awareness while driving.
The best part? When you buy a new Chevy vehicle, Chevrolet is offering FamilyLink at no extra charge for the first three months, ensuring equal access to and knowledge of available safety features to all their customers.
If you think you and your family are ready for a safer-than-ever new ride, visit El Dorado Chevy to see our lineup of powerful Chevrolet models.
Tires are one of the most important parts of your car, especially since it’s the only component that touches the road. Bad tires can decrease fuel economy, reduce handling, and increase the likelihood of a breakdown. That’s why it’s important to get new tires when the time is right. How do you know if you need new tires? Read on to learn about checking tire tread.
One of the easiest ways, according to Pep Boys, is to try the penny test. Simply take a penny, flip it upside down, and put it in the middle of the tire tread. If you can see above Abe’s head, that means you have less than approximately 2/32 of an inch left on your tires. Any less, and it would be illegal in most states to drive.
You should also check tires for wear and tear. This includes bulges, cracking, and bald spots. Bald spots or patches of missing tread are often signs of misalignment because the vehicle is probably not riding properly. Bulging and cracking are signs that the rubber may be going bad. Additionally, tires should be replaced after about five years even if you don’t use them, as rubber compounds breakdown over time.
Not sure if you need new tires? At El Dorado Chevrolet, our specially trained staff can easily tell you if it’s time for new tires, a tire rotation, or if your pressure is getting low. Call or stop by for all your tire maintenance needs.
