2016 Initial Quality Study

Five Chevrolet Models Lead 2016 Initial Quality Study

When it comes to building high quality vehicles, it seems no one does this better than Chevrolet. In J.D. Power’s 2016 Initial Quality Study, five Chevrolet vehicles earned the top spots in their segment—this is more than any other brand in the study. This was also the fourth year in a row Chevrolet has earned more of these awards than other brands.

  • In the full-size truck category, the Silverado 1500 earned the best results for a light-duty truck and the Silverado HD brought home the prize for heavy-duty trucks.
  • In the large SUV segment, the Tahoe had a score 19 points higher than the segment average.
  • The Equinox in the compact SUV class with a score that was 15 points higher than the average.
  • In the city car segment, the Spark astounded with a score 48 points higher than its class average.

These results added on to Chevrolet’s already strong showing in the 2016 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, where it also had more winning models than any other brand.

With these big wins, it shows Chevrolet is truly focused on improving the ownership experience for its customers.

To experience the winning feeling of owning a Chevrolet for yourself, come check out the full lineup today at El Dorado Chevrolet.

Chevrolet Silverado High Desert Brings Concept to Life

First displayed at the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas, the Chevrolet Silverado High Desert combines sophisticated styling with premium utility. This new package is available on LT, LTZ, and High Country trim levels.

One of the best features in the High Desert package is an all-new cargo system that locks and resists water. It installs directly into the Silverado steel bed and includes dual side storage bins and a three-piece hard tonneau cover. Inside the storage compartments can be raised to secure small items or lowered for complete access to the full length of the bed floor.

“The High Desert package blends the capability and utility of Silverado with the refinement and luxury of Suburban,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet truck marketing, in a statement. “It’s ideal for those customers who want both the security of a lockable cargo area, as well as the flexibility of a pickup truck bed.”

If you add the High Desert package to the High Country trim, you’ll also get Magnetic Ride Control. This features gives drivers precise body motion control and a comfortable ride like they’ve never experienced before.

The High Desert trim will be available at dealerships starting this fall. Do you prefer leaving your truck bed open or would a lockable, flexible storage solution be more of what you want?

MISD Teachers of the Year

MISD TEACHERS OF THE YEAR WILL BE RIDING IN STYLE FOR THE NEXT 12 MONTHS COURTESY OF EL DORADO CHEVY MAZDA

McKinney, TX (May 25, 2016) – As she eases into the black leather driver’s seat of a brand new Chevy Camaro, McKinney ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year Carol Winters says with a laugh, “ I chose something that I wouldn’t normally drive.”

Maybe so, but within moments, the veteran AP English teacher from McKinney High School looks right at home in this new set of wheels that is sure to be the envy of her students.

Sales Manager Rusty McDonald will hand the keys over to her in a few minutes, and it’ll be Winters’ to drive for a year – free of charge – courtesy of El Dorado Chevrolet Mazda of McKinney.

CArol Winters

While Winters soaks up the coolness of her new Camaro, Megan Whittaker smiles and opens the back hatch of a new 2016 Chevy Equinox. “I teach Pre-K, and I carry a lot of bins back and forth between school and home. There’s no way I could fit everything in that car,” she laughs, gesturing toward Winters’ Camaro. As the 2016 MISD Elementary Teacher of the Year, Whittaker is receiving a new vehicle too.

Megan Whittaker
“It’s truly, truly an honor,” says McDonald of the opportunity to offer the use of these vehicles to Winters and Whittaker. “It’s awesome. We feel very fortunate to be able to help.”

It’s one way the dealership hopes to show its appreciation for the teachers of MISD.
El Dorado has been a strong supporter of the district for some time. In 2011, when the FAA program needed a truck to haul projects to livestock shows, El Dorado donated a new Chevy Silverado One-ton Crew cab. The dealership also sponsors the Teacher of the Month recognition on 97.5 KLAK as well as the radio station’s end of the year banquet which honors the teachers spotlighted throughout the year. And, in 2015, they launched this Teacher of the Year vehicle program as another opportunity to give back.

The generosity of El Dorado Chevy Mazda is not taken for granted.

“I just think it’s amazing that a car dealership would show this much appreciation to our teachers and our community,” says Whittaker. “They’re a business, and I know that they could be making money from these cars, but instead they’re showing their appreciation for the school district.”

What better time to hop into a new car than summer? School will roll back around soon enough, and the time for loading up bins and teaching supplies will be here again before we know it.

But, for now, it’s time to relax a little…and just cruise.

Father's Day

Car Gifts for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is right around the corner—June 19th this year. If your father or husband love to spend his free time in the garage or spend a lot of time in the car, consider getting him one of these car gifts for Father’s Day.

  • Portable Powerpack. This small rechargeable battery has enough juice to jump start a car. And, you can also use it to charge up your smartphone or other device. Charge the battery itself either by plugging it into the wall or using the 12V car adapter.
  • Heated and cooled seat cushion. If your dad’s car doesn’t come with built-in heated and cooled seats, help him stay comfortable with this seat cushion. It comes in four colors and plugs into the 12V outlet to keep Dad cool.
  • Portable air pump. Help your dad put an end to gas station air pumps and all the quarters with this portable air compressor. For right around $50, it won’t take long to get your money’s worth.
  • More outlets. If your dad and other passengers are constantly fighting over the one 12-volt port in his car, get him this power station. It fits nicely into a cup holder and adds an additional 12-volt port along with two more USB ports. And, there is even a convenient slot to hold a smartphone.

Are you giving any car gifts for Father’s Day this year?

Find the Vehicle for you

Find the Best Type of Vehicle for You

So you’re looking for your next vehicle and you have no idea where to start. Don’t stress! The first thing you want to do is pick the best type of vehicle that suits your particular needs…

Sedans: Although there is a lot of variety amongst the sedan segment, sedans are generally known for being the most balanced vehicles. If you want it all—interior space, efficiency, safety, technology—get a sedan.

Trucks: This one is obvious, right? But you should know that trucks are much more than hauling and towing machines. They can be just as comfortable and accommodating as a sedan.

Crossovers: Think of crossovers as a cross between an SUV and a sedan. Bigger than a sedan and smaller than a full-size SUV, crossovers are often just as balanced as sedans but with more interior space and potentially more strength.

SUVs: If you like lots of interior space and the potential for lots of power, an SUV is the right kind of vehicle for you. There is a lot of variety in the SUV segment.

Compacts: People who do a lot of commuting and/or live in the city often appreciate the unique benefits of a compact vehicle. They get unbelievable gas mileage and are very easy to park and maneuver around tight city streets.

Now once you’ve decided the best type of vehicle for you, you can move on to bigger and better questions!

Chevy Ad Honoring Prince Hits Newspapers Across the Country

Seven-time Grammy Award winner Prince recently passed away. Adored across the board by fans, fellow musicians, and critics alike, Prince was what some have even called the “Mozart of pop music.”

His forays into avant garde jazz notwithstanding, Prince knew how craft a pop hook. And one of the best hooks he ever wrote was the eponymous opening line in the 1982 hit “Little Red Corvette.” Hear that tune, and you’d be humming that line for days.

To honor the artist, Chevrolet placed a full-page ad in six major newspapers across the country. The Chevy ad honoring Prince was simple, just the rear view of a red split-window Corvette and the text, “Baby, That Was Much Too Fast/ 1958-2016,” dates commemorating Prince’s life.

Of course, “Little Red Corvette” isn’t the only time a Chevrolet has been referenced in a song. Don McLean drove his Chevy to the levee in “American Pie.” Motley Crue traded their ‘65 Chevy for illegal drugs in the song “Dr. Feelgood.” In “Crocodile Rock,” Elton John reminisces about the good ol’ days when “rock was young” and he had an “Old Gold Chevy.” But, perhaps in no other song does a Chevrolet figure so prominently as in “Little Red Corvette.”

Books for car enthusiasts

Best Books for Car Enthusiasts

Finding the right book can be tough sometimes. But if you love race cars, you’re in luck. Here are five great books for car enthusiasts.

Race Car Vehicle Dynamics – This might just be number one on the list. It covers everything about race cars, from why the tires produce grip to ride quality. It’s a 918-page textbook, though, so it’s not for light reading.

Chassis Design: Principles and Analysis – This 700-page book includes memoirs and notes of Maurice Olley, a British Rolls-Royce suspension and chassis engineer. He was the lead engineer behind the Corvette.

Tune to Win: The Art and Science of Race Car Development and Tuning – This one is written by Caroll Smith, an engineer behind the success of the Ford’s GT40. This is an easier read to follow.

Nuts, Bolts, Fasteners, and Plumbing – This one’s by Caroll Smith, too, and covers everything you need to know about nuts, bolts, fasteners, and plumbing for race cars (and street cars, too!)

Engineer in Your Pocket – Okay, yes, another one by Caroll Smith. But it’s the reference manual on basically anything you need to know. It’s even better than Google!

Shoreline

Special Edition Chevrolet Colorado Shoreline Premieres

The Chevy Colorado always impresses, but with a new special edition, it’s sure to turn heads. On March 15th, Chevy unveiled the new Chevrolet Colorado Shoreline, designed for the customers who love a good midsize pickup truck.

The new Colorado was responsible for 74% growth in the midsize pickup segment. “This year, we are continuing that momentum with the Shoreline edition designed specifically for customers in the segment’s biggest market,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet’s truck marketing director.

Chevy came up with the Shoreline concept to appeal to the largest midsize pickup truck market: California. There are more midsize pickup trucks sold in LA than the next two largest markets combined.

So, the Shoreline package combines bright exterior colors with a colored front grille, black 18-inch wheels and minimal chrome accents. The Shoreline provides some of the most popular features to consumers, like a spray-in bedliner, all-weather floor liners, and one year of SiriusXM radio subscription.

If you’re looking for the next midsize pickup truck for you, look into the new special edition Shoreline. It’s the perfect truck for the midsize pickup enthusiast.

Auto Insurance

Auto Insurance Tips

Choosing your auto insurance can be a bit of a headache. And it’s certainly not easy to understand everything that goes into a policy. Here are some auto insurance tips so you don’t regret the choices you make:

  1. Get uninsured motorist coverage

Even though, legally, everyone must have car insurance, some drivers still don’t. At least 16%, according to the Insurance Research Council. You have to spend more for uninsured motorist coverage, but it’s worth it because it protects you and your family when an accident happens with a negligent driver who is uninsured.

  1. Raise your deductible

Raising your deductible will actually save you money. A $1,000 deductible will give you “full glass” coverage, and it’s cheaper to fix small things than a lower comprehensive deductible.

  1. Find obscure discounts

You can get certain discounts for things like your age, if you take a defensive driving course, or other factors. You might also get discounts through your employment.

  1. Avoid limited tort insurance

This is cheaper overall, but gives you less coverage. Even if the other driver in an accident is at fault, you usually can’t collect any payment for your “pain and suffering.”
