When you think of pickup trucks, you likely envision massive vehicles capable of towing incredibly heavy items, like boats and trailers. What you might not think of is a super-fast vehicle that can launch to 60 miles per hour in the blink of an eye. That’s all changing with the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
In fact, Chevy just announced the 2019 Silverado’s 0-to-60 time, and it’s unbelievably fast. When equipped with the 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 can spring to 60 miles per hour from a full standstill in under seven seconds.
The 2.7-liter engine helps with speed in part due to the weight reduction. This engine is 380 pounds lighter than the 4.3-liter V6, the base engine of the 2019 Silverado. But don’t let its smaller size fool you: The 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine serves up 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque.
The 2.7-liter four-cylinder is also impressive in that it is the first four-cylinder that Chevrolet has ever loaded into a Silverado. While it can’t match the pure power of the 6.2-liter V8 (420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque), it is still quite potent — and its quick acceleration is just a bonus.
