El Dorado Chevrolet is a proud member of the McKinney community because of the beautiful climate, friendly people, and excellent community events. Keep reading to learn about some of the 2020 events in McKinney.
Krewe of Barkus
The 18th annual McKinney Krewe of Barkus will be held on Sunday, February 23, in historic downtown. The event, which features a parade of over 250 costumed dogs as well as a festival held in Mitchell Park, is modeled after the New Orleans tradition of the same name that aims to fundraise for animal welfare. This year, thousands of spectators are expected to attend the parade that will feature pups of all sizes dressed as pop idols.
Arts in Bloom
The McKinney Main Street collective is hosting the Arts in Bloom event in early spring from April 17 – 19 in historic downtown. During the festival, over 150 artists from local schools and the Artist Village will converge to sell and showcase paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and photography. Festival-goers can enjoy free admission and a free shuttle to transport them to the event, which includes live music, delicious food, and a Kids Creation Station to entertain and enrich the little ones.
No matter the time of year, McKinney, Texas, is filled with plenty of entertaining community events. When you’re out exploring McKinney, make sure to stop by El Dorado Chevrolet to check out our new Chevy models.
The new Trailblazer, which shares its nameplate with the popular Trailblazer SUV produced from 2001 to 2009, has been the subject of speculation since April 2019, when Chevy announced that a new vehicle with the Trailblazer name was in development.
The announcement of the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer release date was accompanied by our first real look at the features and trims we can expect to see, but we still have very few details about the upcoming small crossover.
We do know that the Trailblazer will feature a special RS trim, with slightly different exterior styling from the other trims and a two-tone roof as part of its focus on customization. Chevy says the Trailblazer will be equipped with a standard active safety package that includes Front Pedestrian Braking and Automatic Emergency Braking.
Though specs have not been released, it’s assumed that the Trailblazer will have the same or similar engine options as the Equinox, and it will almost certainly come with an all-wheel drive option in addition to standard front-wheel drive.
We at El Dorado Chevrolet are excited for the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer to be available. In the meantime, our inventory is filled with incredible vehicles. Stop in for test drive.

Bike the Bricks
On Friday, May 25th, head to Historic Downtown McKinney for an epic bike race that lasts from 3pm to 11pm. The event is free to watch, though if you have racing in your blood, you will have to pay to enter and compete for the grand prize of $25,000. As a spectator, you can enjoy food, spirits, and family-friendly activities while you witness the event.
Red, White and BOOM!
There is no Fourth of July celebration like Red, White and BOOM! Held downtown on Independence Day, this festivity includes dining, shopping, a car show, block party, parade, concert, fireworks display, and more. It truly is an all-day event to engage the whole family.
Summer technically ends a littler earlier in September, but here in Texas, the summer heat will still be hanging out for the McKinney Oktoberfest, held from September 28th through 30th. Enjoy food, drinks, family activities, and live entertainment.

Car-themed Halloween costumes can be fun for adults and kids alike. Here’s some fun ideas if you want to celebrate the season like a gear head.
An Actual Car: All it takes is a cardboard box, some fake wheels, and a way to attach the car to your body. With some craftiness, you’ve got a costume. Use your imagination when decorating your “car”; you can make it look like a real car or something unique like the Batmobile.
As the number of Spanish speakers in the United States increases so does the number of Chevy owners requesting OnStar in Spanish. OnStar has had Spanish-speaker advisors for years, but the numbers of Spanish calls coming in is increasing.
In fact, Chevrolet says more than 1,000 Spanish speakers press the OnStar button every day, which is 30% more than in 2013.
“We understand that not all Chevrolet owners speak English fluently or at all…” said Terry Inch, executive director of GM’s Global Connected Customer Experience. “As a result, OnStar has a dedicated team of advisors who can help Spanish-speaking customers keep safe, connected and ready for the road ahead.”
Chevrolet owners can have their OnStar requests automatically routed to the Spanish team if they want. They can either set this up at the dealership with an OnStar welcome call or request the feature themselves at any time by pressing the blue OnStar button in their Chevrolet vehicle.
Every new Chevrolet vehicle includes the OnStar Basic Plan for five years at no charge. The Basic Plan includes great features like Dealer Maintenance Notification, Advanced Diagnostics, and access to the myChevrolet mobile app.
Here at El Dorado Chevrolet, we are here to help any of our customers with any of their OnStar needs.
Mother’s Day is right around the corner. It falls on May 14th this year, so there is still time to prepare a gift for your mom, wife, or other significant woman in your life. If your wife or mother is like most moms, she likely spends a lot of time in the car, driving to and from work, shuttling the kids here and there, and running errands. That is why car gifts for mom are not a bad idea.
Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Car detailing – If the mom in your life is constantly toting children from one activity to the next, odds are high, her car is pretty dirty and covered in everything little kids leave behind. Surprise her with a car detailing so it looks and smells like new again.
Satellite radio – Give her the gift of listening to whatever music she wants wherever she is without commercials. If her car is equipped with satellite radio already, buy her a subscription.
Love notes – Write out a bunch of love notes and leave them hidden away in her car. Some she will find right away, but others might not appear for months. Every note she finds will fill her with joy.
